How I Work
My approach is calm, practical, compassionate and non-judgemental.
I believe people are more likely to make meaningful changes when they feel heard, understood and able to talk openly about what is really happening for them.
There is no expectation that you should have everything worked out before we begin.
We start with where you are now.
Starting with what matters to you
Every person comes into recovery with a different story.
Some people may be struggling with cravings or relapse. Others may be trying to rebuild confidence, improve routines, manage emotions, strengthen relationships or understand why certain patterns keep repeating.
We look at what is happening for you now, what feels most important, and what you would like to change.
The work then develops from there.
A practical and person-centred approach
I use a person-centred approach alongside Motivational Interviewing and CBT-informed coaching strategies.
This means we may explore:
- what is motivating you to make changes
- mindset change and different ways of thinking
- thoughts and feelings that may influence your behaviour
- triggers, cravings and warning signs
- routines and coping strategies
- confidence and self-belief
- relationships and boundaries
- setbacks, lapses and relapse
- what helps you feel more stable in your recovery
The aim is not to tell you what you “should” do.
It is to help you understand yourself more clearly, recognise what is helping or getting in the way, and develop practical ways of moving forward.

Small steps can make a real difference
Recovery does not have to mean changing everything at once.
Often, progress comes from small, steady steps that begin to build confidence over time.
That may mean changing one routine, handling one difficult situation differently, recognising a trigger earlier, reaching out for support, or simply beginning to understand yourself in a different way.
Recovery is a journey, and the pace will be different for everyone.
Working together between sessions
Our weekly sessions give us time to explore what is happening in more depth and decide what may be useful to focus on next.
You will also have WhatsApp support between sessions, with a phone call when needed and agreed.
This is designed to give you continuity and support while still encouraging you to build confidence in managing your own recovery.
Reviewing and adapting as we go
Recovery is not always a straight line.
There may be weeks where things feel easier and others where something unexpected needs more attention.
We can review what is working, revisit areas when needed and adjust the focus as your recovery develops.
The aim is to work in a way that feels relevant to you rather than following a rigid formula.
